Last night I went through my portfolio from my high school photography classes. Even though I only graduated last year, I'd somehow forgotten all the great stuff I made. So this week enjoy a taste of my senior year.
One project of ours was to create some type of multi-media collage using an original photo as a background and a variety of other materials. I opted for a photo I shot in the work yard at Alcatraz last year. The odd figures are made up of photos of a couple neighbor girls, my cat, the panda at the zoo and random magazine clippings. Came together as quite an interesting piece, if I do say so myself.
One negative+a lighter=a burnt negative. That is just what this is. I lit one of my negatives on fire, giving it this effect, stuck it in the enlarger and printed it. With a little sepia toner, it all came together.

Get you - you can light stuff on fire in the name of artistry in photography? That's brand new information to me. Burning my "art" only means I have a mess.
I think we will see you again in Odd Shots. You have just the quirky sense of seeing things in a different way that will come back.
Love the kitty walking on the Alcatraz bridge. The collage is a keeper, I'd say. And who knew you could destroy a negative with fire and still get something artistic out of it?
Definitely love the little girl dancing with a lemon (lime?) wedge tutu! Burning negatives? Who'd a thunk it?
I enjoyed the burnt negative - they are so "archaic" in this digital world aren't they?! Very cool.
