MOO...The Cat's Meow!

A couple of weeks ago the I Heart Faces theme was Pets. I entered, and was so surprised...my shot of Pepper the Cat was featured in their mosaic. She's the one trying to sleep in the bottom left-hand corner. Out of 211 entries, they chose to feature me. And 31 other fabulous photogs, too (they featured two mosaics). Thanks, Angie and Amy!

What a Beachy Day

My training trip this past winter for my swim team was to none other than Cali! Peter, along with two other boys, decided to dig a hole on the beach with their kickboards. We ended up going to the beach twice so they had lots of time to expand their masterpiece. Enjoy his proud face for I ♥ Faces!

Flying Through the Air- Odd Shots Monday

I live at the pool in the summer. I have been a long-time lifeguard and recently began coaching. During the hourly break, my fellow lifeguards and I usually swim in the pool and go off the boards. This is Daniel. He was attempting to do a gainer, which consists of the diver jumping straight off the board and flipping backwards. I got this shot mid-flip, well sorta. Enjoy your Odd Shots Monday!

PhotoHunter-Radiant Ruins Needs Your Vote...Please?

I received GREAT news yesterday! A digital photo book that I just finished was nominated for a People's Choice Award in the Photography Book Category. My book is called Radiant Ruins.

Voting for the People's Choice Awards is open through August 20.
To vote for ME, please click here. You have to register, but don't have to buy anything.

Most of you know that I'm just a college kid, and that I started MOO at the end of June. I've been trying to juggle this new project with my job (summer swim coach...it's intense!), so I haven't been posting or commenting regularly. Swim season is over next week, though, so I promise to get back into this ASAP!

Anyway, this is a stretch, but the snap above...Entitled "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy," and also part of my photo book... is a UTENSIL, of sorts. And that's the theme for PhotoHunters this week.

Don't forget. Please vote for me...it's free!

Rockin' the Ruins

A couple years back the fam and I spent our winter break in Cozumel, Mexico. Took a day trip to see some Mayan ruins. Pretty neat stuff. Go to today's PhotoHunter to Rock Out some more...

Something New

I'm trying something new today. The I ♥ Faces contest. I'm entering both a "pets" shot and a "sports action" shot. The cat, she's Pepper. Always lounging around the house when she's not being a disturbance. The guy swimming is Matt. I took about 200 photos at our conference swim meet in February of him and the other 25 swimmers.

Color Me Silly-Odd Shots

Ever seen a Day of the Dead festival? Well, if you haven't, you are missing out on a lot. All the colors and creativity, it's awesome to see. Took this shot on my last trip to San Fran. Happy Odd Shots Monday!

Sunset Sky- Skywatch Friday

I dug this shot up a couple days ago. Took it last summer at my most fav beach ever, Duck in the Outer Banks, NC. Nothing says summer like watching the sun set over the sound while enjoying the best ice cream around. Happy Skywatch Friday!

Forever in Our Hearts

To continue the trip through my "old stuff," I'd like to share a project I made last year to commemorate my grandparents. Every time I visit them I bring along two roses; a pink for Baba and a yellow for Grandpa the Texan. I took the shot, printed it black and white on a transparency and placed it on top of newspaper clippings, which I painted pink and yellow for the flowers. Hope you enjoy!

A Trip Down Memory Lane...

Brought to you by Katney

Last night I went through my portfolio from my high school photography classes. Even though I only graduated last year, I'd somehow forgotten all the great stuff I made. So this week enjoy a taste of my senior year.

One project of ours was to create some type of multi-media collage using an original photo as a background and a variety of other materials. I opted for a photo I shot in the work yard at Alcatraz last year. The odd figures are made up of photos of a couple neighbor girls, my cat, the panda at the zoo and random magazine clippings. Came together as quite an interesting piece, if I do say so myself.

One negative+a lighter=a burnt negative. That is just what this is. I lit one of my negatives on fire, giving it this effect, stuck it in the enlarger and printed it. With a little sepia toner, it all came together.

A Capitol 4th and a Pink Kitty Cat

Yesterday, at about 6 pm, my mama popped her head into my room and said, "Get your stuff, we're going to DC to watch the fireworks." Uh, ok. After an uneventful drive into the city, taking the "Aunt Jo" route, avoiding all tourists, we ended up at the Capitol. With some smooth talking from my mama, we got past the guards and found ourselves a seat on the Capitol steps. What a great way to celebrate Independence Day. Enjoy!

Thanks, Sarcastic Mom, for hosting!

With such a busy day yesterday, swim meet in the morning followed by 4th of July festivities (see above), I had no time to post. Enjoy my day-late Photo Hunt post, hosted by tnchick.

Happy Birthday, Lady Liberty

In celebration of the upcoming 4th of July, I've decided to post photos from last year's celebration as part of the Thursday Challenge hosted by Dale at Spun with Tears. Every summer at the neighborhood pool, the lifeguards join together for a day full games and prizes for the little cherubs. Everyone gets into the spirit and you should, too, this 4th of July!

Bullet to the Heart- Wordless Wednesday

I took this shot last year when in San Fran for the Dia de Los Muertos in the Mission District. If you couldn't tell, this is a remembrance ribbon made out of bullets. It was part of a shrine remembering those lost in the Iraq War.

Always Remembered, Never Forgotten.

Wordless Wednesday brought to you by 5 minutes for Mom.
